Back
As well as looking after the transport requirements of local people with particular needs, we also offer a range of training opportunities, through our membership of both the Confederation of Passenger Transport (the national trade association representing bus and coach operators) and the Community Transport Association.
An active in-house training team
Our employees and volunteers are kept fully conversant with current legislation and Best Practice in community transport development -and our own in-house training team offers a comprehensive range of practical support to other organisations.
Emergency evacuation procedures
We can provide full training in emergency evacuation procedures, since emergency conditions can be realistically reproduced using our on-site smoke-generating equipment. A short course in emergency evacuation can provide organisations with invaluable experience in dealing with unexpected events.
PATS (Passenger Assistants Training
Scheme)

PATS is now the sector standard for people caring for or supervising passengers travelling by road. Employers of either permanent staff or volunteers have a duty of care in this respect -and our training programme can ensure your responsibilities are met by well trained, accredited staff.
Official recognition and approval
Automotive Management and Development Ltd (AMD) is the industry awarding body for NVQs. Recently AMD recognised our training
excellence, approving our Widnes headquarters as being suitable for the delivery of training on their behalf.
PCV training
Using vehicles from our own fleet to train drivers, Halton Community Transport is helping redress a sector shortage of qualified PCV drivers in the Halton area – and full training is given, including completion of application forms, and theory test training using interactive CD tuition. Courses run for both minibus and coach PCV driver licensing – and recently, both New Deal and Halton Action Group have provided candidates for each of the schemes.
New Deal Placements
Under the government’s New Deal initiative, we can provide placements for individuals interested in becoming:
Drivers, Passenger Assistants, Vehicle maintenance, Building maintenance
and Garden maintenance
.
A wide range of training and education courses
We offer a comprehensive portfolio of training and education courses, including:
Further Education
We believe our experience as an established community transport service provider should be made available to those considering entry
into Social Service or Community ventures, so we offer placements to students studying for Public Service qualifications. The programme has been particularly well received by Halton College students studying BTEC National Diplomas.
Driver Training
MIDAS (the Minibus Driver Awareness
Scheme) is the recognised sector standard for enhancing driving and passenger awareness skills. Our clients include The National Trust, the
Warrington Peace Centre and local schools. On completion of their training, drivers are provided with certificates by way of proof of competence.
NVQ Level 2 in Road Passenger
Transport (Community Transport
Pathway)

Halton Community Transport is instrumental in training candidates for this valuable NVQ qualification, which can provide participants with a nationally recognised qualification
.
Pre-16 Students
We have regular work placement opportunities for young people in Halton, and we remain committed to student development. For enquiries about any of the above training and education programmes, please telephone 0151 257 2410 and ask for the Training Manager.
Disability Awareness Training
We carry our disability awareness training using our own tried and tested programme. This is fully supported by the latest video training aids.
